Hi Kfeto,
I don't read Turkish, but I see that "yok" must mean "no", right?

But could it be: "No, not friends"?

Also, "I've been saying it from the beginning that this won't work like this."

In this sentence either you remove "it" , so it would read:
"I've been saying from the beginning that this won't work like this."
or "that" and put a colon:
"I've been saying it from the beginning: this won't work like this."

Which one conveys better?

yok means no or none(as in "i have no friends" )

degil(is not) would be used to say "we are not friends"

and then you also have -siz as in "i am without friends"

and then finally :-) hayir is the polite way of answering no
