Penso, com o devido respeito, que ficaria mais correto se a primeira sentença estivesse assim escrita: "I don't know who you are and I don't add people that I don't know."

I think that would sound more natural in English. The original is not a masterpiece.

You can change it if you want, however here (London) we use 'that is bugging me' all the time for situations like this. It may not be literary language or what you'd see in textbooks but is very much used in day-to-day life.
