In the knowledge age, which has been called various things, such as the post-industrial era, the post-industrial society, the third-wave society, the global-knowledge society, and the service-class society, the most often mentioned terms are "globalization" and "total quality management". In an atmosphere in which the world is becoming more and more of a global village, where national boundaries are disappearing in the economic, commercial and cultural spheres, and where competition has become fierce, the ability of universities to compete and to become stronger has gained importance.
