Reparei nas notas abaixo da tradução inglesa que não temos muita informação sobre o texto original, mas mesmo assim penso que talvez seria melhor utilizar "sentimentos" no texto, pois ficamos sem saber a que se refere o "eles". Talvez pondo entre parênteses tal qual como o texto inglês?

No texto do Ian, ele explica claramente que estava apenas tentando "imaginar" a que estava se referindo, por isso colocou uma interrogação. Ele fez isso para justificar a falta de sujeito na frase que em inglês deveria existir, mas que não é preciso nas lÃnguas latinas. Não sabemos "exatamente" se está se referindo a sentimentos (embora faça bastante sentido). Eu ainda prefiro não colocar nada já que a tradução fica correta do mesmo modo e não arriscamos usar uma palavra errada.
