Not sure it's better, just another option....

I thought about it myself, but to sit I think it would work for " stau jos".

Don't know for sure, because the text is so short and I don't know the context.
But in our language, when we say "stai să mă gândesc puţin" for example, you can translate it like "let me think a little while"...
