I'm sorry, Serena. I have regarded "hic" as an adverb here - without any context it was difficult to judge what it was indeed... I just felt that the adverb would fit better a church entrance... According to the official translation it was taken as a pronoun "hic, heac, hoc". I can see both the translations are possible.

I also know it is quite ambiguous...
