Therefore friendship is nothing other than perfect agreement on all divine and human things, joined to kindliness and affection; and I ask myself if the excepted wisdom is not the best that has ever been given to man by the immortal gods. Some prefer riches, some good health, some power, some honor, many prefer even pleasures.
Those who place the greatest good in virtue make an admirable decision, as this very virtue creates and preserves friendship and friendship cannot by any means exist without virtue.
