| FreyaNumber of messages: 1910 | "perche" si scrive così "perché" e un'altra cosa che non capisco è "the passions". Perché non potrebbe essere "le passioni" ?
I'm just practising my Italian. Don't "shoot" me if I make mistakes in my writing |

| | Mi dispiace, ma per "the passions" si scrive "le passioni". |

| | Well, now here are three not natives... But three same ideas.
Is it right? Why?

| XiniNumber of messages: 1655 | Ok, my question was above all about the meaning because the sentence sounds strange... CC: Freya |

| | Ah, ok.
Thank you. |

| | I think that changes the original text
...as he is sweet to have...
it means : because he is sweet... |
| | 29 December 2007 21:28 |
| XiniNumber of messages: 1655 | yes i think we can translate this way, but the inner meaning maybe is that of bipbip |
| | 29 December 2007 21:45 |
| | bipbip's suggestion implies an exclamation like "How sweet he is"
I don't think that was the intention.
I believe the text was something like the end of a thought like: I don't believe he gave up...as he is sweet to have exhausted and abandoned the passions!
I'm just guessing the beginning but there must have been something before the text, that made this part become a relative clause.

| FreyaNumber of messages: 1910 | Yes. Now that I'm reading the text for the second time I think that Mariketta's version could also fit. So I guess the commentaries field will have some adnotations, and not only "frammento senza inizio" |
| | 30 December 2007 07:51 |
| FreyaNumber of messages: 1910 | and still..."As he is sweet to have exhausted and abandoned the passions" I personally understand it like "due to the fact that he is sweet...". Well, nevermind, the sentence is quite strange as it is and it can be more or less misunderstood. |
