Title
Les organisations internationales sont donc impuissantes?
Text
Submitted by Francky5591
Source language: French

En quelques années, le programme alimentaire mondial a perdu la moitié de son budget, qui n'est plus que de 3,2 milliards. Les pays riches ne cotisent plus. Ils doivent sauver leurs banques. C'est à dire les spéculateurs.
La lutte contre la faim dans le monde passe après. J'appelle cela un crime contre l'humanité.
Remarks about the translation
Propos de Jean Ziegler, recueillis par un quotidien régional français, au sujet de son livre "Destruction massive".

Title
So, are international organizations powerless?
Translation
English

Translated by alexfatt
Target language: English

Within the space of a few years, the World Food Programme has lost half its budget, which amounts to no more than 3.2 billion. Rich countries do not contribute anymore. They have to rescue their banks. That is to say the speculators.
The fight against world hunger is secondary. I call this a crime against humanity.

'In the last/recent years' instead of 'within the space of a few years'.

'That is to say the spéculators'. Something sounds wrong her. Couldn't one just say: 'the speculators' or 'which are the speculators'. Sure you can find somehing, Lein.

Forgot the tittle: I would say 'So, are the international organizations powerless? '

Agree about the title, Lene, Alex should add "are" in the interrogation mode ("are international organizations powerless?"

But the rest is OK IMO.

I should have placed "are" before the subject indeed.
Thanks for your comments, Lene

The translation seems fine to me, but I'm a bit unsure of the meaning of "plus" in the second sentence. Surely the rich countries are contributing quite a bit of food since they are the countries with the most food surplus.

Hi Jens! "ne...plus" here was translated the right way, into French it makes no ambiguity at all, it is translatable with "not...anymore".

Have a nice afternoon!
