Du fragst mich,
ob ich etwas bereue.
Dazu kann ich nur antworten: Nein.
Ich tat, was mir richtig schien.

Erfahrung.

You ask me
if I have any regrets.
To that,, I can only answer: No.
I did what seemed right to me.
It cost me much, I admit
but...
I didn't dare to act otherwise.
I didn't know it better.

Now, I know it better.
And this, what I have learned,
can be summarized in one word :

Experience.

From top to bottom:

thereto -> to that
say -> answer
appeared -> seemed
behave -> act
I didn't know (...) better (twice)

resumed -> summarised

Hi Rodrigues: both "behave and "act" can be " zu handeln " in Germain, bur I do agré with you about "antworden= which means answer.Thanks for your help.

I disagree with that, that "behave" and "act" means "handeln" in German
And that isn't Rodrigues, I'm Salvatore alias italo07 hehehehe

Sorry Gamine,
'Behaving' is about conduct, attitude.
'Acting' is what you do.
Therefore, like Salvatore, I still think, the correct translation is ACT.

And I had some other suggestions,too. I noticed that somehow my earlier message didn't come through correctly.
Please take notice, if you will.
