A well-known German fairy tale (taken and adapted from one by the brothers Grimm) - having also entered our culture, under the title of The Story of the Fisherman and the Sturgeon - which offers, at a primitive-mentality level, an interesting allegorical parable.
One day, a poor fisherman catches a flatfish (a kind of sturgeon or turbot) which miraculously speaks to him. The fish pleads to be released, claiming that he is, in fact, a famous prince, who was turned into a fish by an evil witch.
