Don't you say "how do you do" when meeting a new person?
"Ce mai faci tu?" means "How are you?"/"How are you feeling?"/"How have you been?"/"How have you been feeling?"...

Yeap, I would have translated by "How are you doing?" or "How have you been?". I knew the same, "How do you do?" is a retoric question addressed when you meet, for the first time, a person, not to ask how that person have been. I have not voted negativ because I am not 100% sure, so that's why I ask you, Ian. Maybe you can enlighten us a little bit.

usually does
(although some people use the second one in the same way)
So if you really want to know how the other person feels, we should translate this as
How are you?
or
How are things?
or
How are you doing?
etc.

"how've you been" is the correct answer because "how are you" should be translated as "ce faci".

"how've you been?" ar însemna mai degrabă "ce-ai mai făcut?"/"cum te-ai mai simţit?", deşi merge şi în cazul acesta... Eu rămân totuşi la varianta "how are you?". Cred că este cea mai apropiată ca sens.
