I knew the same, "How do you do?" is a retoric question addressed when you meet, for the first time, a person, not to ask how that person have been. "how've you been" is the correct answer because "how are you" should be translated as "ce faci".

"how've you been?" ar însemna mai degrabă "ce-ai mai făcut?"/"cum te-ai mai simţit?", deşi merge şi în cazul acesta... Eu rămân totuşi la varianta "how are you?". Cred că este cea mai apropiată ca sens.
