I have a doubt about your last line, Alex:
"Cum orationibus pressis novis".
I haven't known such an expression. Does it exist in real?
I would rather say it as follows:
"cum novis verbis brevibus/laconicis"...
or better
"cum novis verbis brevibus
exspectantibus/preparatis
" or similar --> to emphasize that it is a kind of surprise waiting

Well, I found on my dictionary
laconismo -> oratio pressa
, but I have really no idea of my own about how to translate it.
I like you latter suggestion, i.e. "cum novis verbis brevibus preparatis"
