Bu nasıl?
"Those who share the same thoughts can communicate, not those who share the same language."
Ya da bu?
"Not those who share the same language but those who share the same thoughts can communicate."

Your first suggestion seems to imply that those who share the same language cannot communicate.

Your second suggestion is incorrect grammatically.

That's why I translated it the way I did.

I think this translation is not completely wrong but
it could have been better grammatically.my suggestion is:

Those who can commnicate are not the people that share the same language but people that share the same thoughts.

or it might be something like that.

hello kafetzou!
yes, you're right. in the turkish text it says that those who share the same language cannot communicate.
your translation is the translation of "Anlaşabilenler aynı dili paylaşanlar değil aynı düşünceleri paylaşanlardır.". in this sentence you emphasize "can communicate". but in the turkish text "Those who share the same thoughts" is emphasized.

Do you really think that the Turkish text implies that those who speak the same language CANNOT communicate?

This sentence is the combination of two sentences in fact: "ayni dili paylaÅŸanlar anlaÅŸamazlar, ayni dusunceleri paylasanlar anlasirlar" It is a figurative sentence. It purposes to say that to share the same language is not enough to communicate.

I think this translation is correct but what bothers me here that there are too many word "who" after "who" here.Cant we leave out the last "who" here.

No, but I can take out the first two. I'll do that. I agree that it would sound better that way, although a bit formal.

Anyway, this translation was supposed to be "meaning only"!!
