stop busting my balls | | This is apparently a slang expression which is easily translated into English, and has the same figurative meaning: Stop giving me a hard time. |

Lasta Afiŝo | | | | | 24 Januaro 2008 09:24 | | OkalNombro da afiŝoj: 22 | Hello Dramati,
To me, "rompere coglioni" is more colloquial than hassling. It is literally "stop breaking my balls" | | | 24 Januaro 2008 09:29 | | OkalNombro da afiŝoj: 22 | I may add that we would expect to have a pronoun after this verb.
stop hassling me, or stop hassling us, stop hassling people... It depends on the context | | | 24 Januaro 2008 11:23 | | | Tell you what Okal, you are the only dissenting voice in the vote who feels that way, but I also felt it needed a pronoun after the verb, but unless I can really know if the us, we, or me is implied I really can't determine if it is singular, plural, or generic. Stop hassling fits all possibilities, and, given the fact that we don't know to whom this is addressed, or to how many, I will validate it. Concering breaking my balls, this is not the same as hassling in English...it is much stronger. Breaking someones balls comes long after simple harassment, which is another word for hassling. I never break someones balls until I have properly harassed them.
Thanks for the input though, not many people would have noticed what you did in the translation. Good work and thanks again,
David |
