Remarks about the translation
original text:

lo iodea abal.. ani lo rotze ieshli aji tov babait

Title
girlfriend
Translation
English

Translated by jairhaas
Target language: English

I have a new girlfriend.
A nice girlfriend, indeed, but pretty? Not really.
Don't know, but...I don't want this. I feel best at home.
Remarks about the translation
The sentence

יש לי הכי טוב בבית
(I feel best at home)
is open to different interpretations.Literally it says: "I have the best at home".

'I don't want this' - no clue is given as to what the person doesn't want.

Hi Jair

'I don't want' seems incomplete - any idea what it is the writer doesn't want?

- I don't want it (leaves it vague)
- I don't want her
- I don't want to go out
- something else?

Thanks!

Hi Lein,

there is no way of knowing that. The sentence is incomplete, and we must therefore translate it as that, otherwise we would be engaging in guesswork. Maybe the writer trusts his intended reader to decipher his intention

OK, fair enough. Could you explain in the comments also, which sentence in English corresponds to the one in Hebrew that is open to different interpretations? (And, if needed, what interpretations they are?)
Thanks!

The sentence I translated as "I feel best at home" - literally it says: "I have the best at home",which could be interpreted in a thousand ways. The whole text is written by someone not meticulous in expressing himself clearly.

I would change to "I don't want this" which is general enough, and then vote 'YES'
