| The heart has its reasons... | | Target language: Engels
The heart has its reasons that reason does not know.
| Remarks about the translation | This is a quote by Blaise Pascal. Some other ways to translate / understand it are as follows:
“The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing". "The heart has its reasons, which reason does not understand". "The heart has reasons that reason cannot know". "Love has reasons, which reason cannot understand" "The heart has mysteries that not even reason can understand". |

The best known version for that quote is:
"The heart has its reasons that reason does not know"
We can translate that in different ways, but since there is a structure that by convention became popular, we'd better stick to it. What do you think? | | | 26 August 2008 05:13 | | | Hi Lilian!
I agree with you. We should always try to stick to the best known version of a quote in a given language. In this case, however, since the translation request was "meaning only", I decided to provide the rather literal translation of the sentence in Romanian, and then added some other options. In the end, I failed to include the best known version of the quote.
Anyway, I subscribe to your point of view. |
