The tenses are fine and as a verbatim translation it's fine too but I would like some further context. You see, the first part can either be taken literally, "we saw", or as an expression meaning "yeah, we 'saw' the ones who are not hiding (how they behave or whatever) and there's no difference".
Or, in other words, let's say someone told the author to stop hiding because those who hide are i.e. bad. He could reply "yeah, and we saw those who don't hide (how nice they are).
