I would put the verb at the end, to emphasize the parallel: "Der einst ..., der letzte ... ist ..."

The problem is the comma I think. The whole first half of the sentence is the subject of the verb "ist", so that verb cannot go at the end of the sentence.

Vielleicht kann ich helfen:

das Komma ist falsch.

das Verb "ist" gehört zum "Atem" !! / Also kann nicht in einem Nebensatz sein, den es nicht gibt!

Es ist nur ein Hauptsatz.
