'it's possible mapping' sounds somewhat odd. 'It is possible to map...' sounds more natural.

To my "americanized" ears, on the contrary, the present participle sounds better.

But if to your British style "to map" sounds better. Let's edit!

I would use it in constructions like 'it's possible mapping (...) increases the chances of...', or 'mapping of the students' capabilities is possible' but didn't know it is common to use it in this way too
