Source language: German

Guten Tag Herr M.,

M. B.
Remarks about the translation

Target language: English

Dear Mr. M.,

A collegue of mine, his girlfriend is Chinese, looked for a job in China at a foreign firm, e.g. as a production manager, quality surveillance or suchlike.

M.B., xxx@yyy.zz

I have also given him your coordinates.

Best regards, also from M.B., I came across you because of him. We probably met before at a “Bertschy-party”.

Kind regards,
M.B.
Remarks about the translation
It seems a bit strange to me that this letter starts in past tense rather than present tense.
"sucht" instead of "suchte"?
In which case "looked for" should be edited into "is looking for".

It seems like "girlfriend" would be the best translation for Freundin in this setting.

I think "looked for" (she has stopped looking) should be changed to "was looking for" (she may still be looking).

I agree with all of the above.

The strange thing is that the original text actually says that this friend stopped looking...
The translation is correct in that point, or the writer meant to say something else

Girlfriend in English usually has the sound of a relationship, which is not necessarily the case here...

It could be just any friend, but when someone says 'seine Freundin ist Chinesin' he usually means girlfriend. In a relationship. Otherwise he would have said something like 'he has a Chinese friend', or 'a friend of his is Chinese'.

It's fine with me, and hopefully with the requester.
Text is edited to 'girlfriend'.
