마지막 글 | | | | | 2009년 10월 2일 19:47 | | | Efee, I' m wondering whether "plusquamperfectum"(inceperat) is needed here? Couldn't be simple "perfectum"? I know you were suggested by Lilian's English bridge and she had used there "past perfect tense", but I really don't understand why she used it. It doesn't fit here to me.
Lilly could you explain me this?
CC: lilian canale | | | 2009년 10월 2일 19:58 | | | I used it because it is the tense used in the original.
Perhaps that line is not very well structured, but that's what it says.
Perhaps it should have been:
Quando/Si una amistad acaba, (es porque) no habÃa comenzado.
When/If a friendship ends, (it's because) it hadn't started. | | | 2009년 10월 2일 20:02 | | | but you still use past perfect. Why, Lilly?
My English isn't so good, but I try only to understand why not in this way:
When/If a friendship ends, (it's because) it didn't start. /or haven't started?
| | | 2009년 10월 2일 21:50 | | | It hadn't started if it ends/ended.
If something ends, it's because it started at some moment before that, right?
Action occurred before a certain fact in the past.
I don't know if in Latin will be different, but IMO, in English is correct.
The requester says she was betrayed by her boyfriend and her best friend, so that event belongs to the past (the end of the friendship).
She is referring to that friendship that ended. | | | 2009년 10월 3일 00:23 | | | Lilly, I think I can understand your point of view, though I thought that when we say "sth ends" it means that it ends just nowadays, in these days when we say it...
Well, anyway I still believe that it is not needed plusquamperfectum in Latin, Efee. I would use perfectum here... | | | 2009년 10월 3일 09:07 | | | I was in doubt about plusquamperfectum too... | | | 2009년 10월 3일 09:43 | | | Yes, I guess at it... |
