Dear goncin, I can't understand the second part of your translation.
"ante nihil esse aequiparat"?
"is like facing emptiness" I would translate:

In the original, "estar frente al vacÃo" means something like "to be before (in front of) emptiness". Does "In articulo" translate "in front of" well?

Not exactly:
"in articulo + Gen = I can't find exact English equivalent. It is similar to the expression: 'in the light of sth", but also not quite that
But:
"in artculo mortis" = facing the death, when you are close to death...
