Hi Lilian,

Yes, they are synonyms, but "resolute" sounds so "fancy"

I thought that "decided" is much more simple and... easy to understand

I don't know what the problem with "resolute" can be. It means 'determined', 'decided', 'strongly concentrated', 'devoted', etc

Not being a very 'common' word in everyday speech does not mean that it's wrong. Indeed, I like it, it's strong and clear.
