Maybe "for a little while" or "for a little longer" would be better

You're right, "a little while" sounds better

a few suggestions if I may :
-than ours = than at home
-it'll be a hard time for a little while =
I'll have to grit my teeth for a little
while longer - (to emphasize the fact that
it's going to be very difficult).
-I'm on Hyves here for a moment so I thought
I'd send you a quick message = I'm here on
Hyves momentarily so I thought I mail you a few
words.

Those are good suggestions Noella, but I don't reallly agree with the last one.
If I think about "mailing a few words", I see somebody sending a message with a couple of random words right out of a dictionary.
