I edited that "The Jamaican's victory..."

I think all the sentences refer to the athlete not to the country, therefore what was expected was his victory.

What do you think?

You are right about that this "article" is about him, the athlete. But the Swedish word "jamaicansk" is refering to the country. But since this is "meaning only", maybe it's more logical to translate it that way. I'll edit "back", thanks again.

"jamaicanen" (male) = the person.
"jamaicanskan" (F) = the person.

No - what was expected was victory by someone from Jamaica, there were more possibilities than the actual winner, all of whom were favourites. So Jamaican victory is better.
