I think that the better translation for "breath" is "respiro". "respiraciòn" is more refer to the action , don't you think?

Actually Nadia, breath as respiro means action, it's a verb Yo respiro.
Respiración is an substantive like in Mi respiración.

Nadia, "respiro" is most usually used as "pause" or "break". (Dame un respiro: give-me a break)
"Aliento" would fit better for breath.
