Minha dúvida era exatamente quanto a interpretação da expressão "torn assunder". | | |

asunder - into parts or pieces; "he took his father's watch apart"; "split apart"; "torn asunder"
quanto a "lie" - também pode ser "jazer", depende do contexto, por exemplo em lápides as vezes se pode ler "Here lies mr. John Doe" ou "Aqui jaz Mr. John Doe".
Mas na música ficaria estranho colocar: "Se o passado não jazer"
Acho que "morrer" aÃ, fica melhor do que mentir, ou jazer, como se ele quisesse dizer:
"se o passado não morrer, não for enterrado"...coisas de linguagem poética... | | |

ela deve ser entendida desta maneira:
BONO:
first the thunder(juntos)
satisfied, if the past it will not lie
to the future you and I get blown away
CLANNAD:
first the thunder(juntos)
then the storm
torn asunder
in the storm
então seria:
BONO:
"primeiro o trovão
satisfeito, se o passado não se estender
até o futuro, voce e eu seremos despedaçados"
CLANNAD:
"primeiro o trovão
depois a tempestade
despedaçados
na tempestade"
