The common meaning of "göra ont" is "hurt",
(Love can both hurt and be beautiful.) even though "do evil" is a possibility.

I think that "göra ont" in this case means "hurt". But I might be wrong, I'm not Swedish my self.

Agree with Lena(b), this is not the most common translation ...but it is right.

I think a better translation would be "love can both hurt and be beautiful"

But of course the other one (do evil) is possible as well
