"out of work" means unemployed, at least in American English. It should be "outside of work" or "away from work". Also, "I was hoping" sounds much more natural than "I hoped".

Hi joanna,

"out-of-work" is a noun with the meaning of "unemployed". But that's not what I used.
"outside" or "away from" could be used if referring to a certain place, like the office for example (ouside the office/ far from the office), however what the line in Spanish means is that he'd like to meet the other person in a different activity. See what I mean?
