But this was a metaphor and Turkish metaphors may not be the same in English.In the original Turkish text writer wants to say that "they studied hard" by writing "öğütülmüş". Is there a metaphor for this situation in English or shall I only write "we studies hard?".

Ah - then you don't mean "grounded" (like an electrical wire - the past participle of "to ground" ) - you mean "ground" (like coffee - the past participle of "to grind" ) - and you're right - that doesn't work in English.

You can say we've had the material ground into us - will that work somehow?
