If it is a surname, are you sure you didnt spell it wrong? The correct way would be Hasselkvist (hassel is a nut and kvist is a twig on a tree).

What's "hazel"? I think we have to say "hazel nut" in English.

That exactly why i say it can not be directly translated to english. Hazel nut twig is "hasselNÖTgren" and that is not the case. In swedish it is exactly hazel twig. The word Hassel doent exist for itself in swedish either. But since it is a name it doesnt have a meaning.
