Yes, it's pretty well translated, in fact this means: "It's better even when I have smth bad than nothing at all." It's particularly used when talking about a person who made us sad, and we have this feeling in the end that it's better with him/her by our side than being without that person, even if it did us much harm in the past...kind of "romantic" usage.
