Übersetzung
Englisch

Übersetzt von doncho.georgiev
Zielsprache: Englisch

Who will do the cleaning now? Who will wash the laundry, who will wash the dishes, who will prepare the bed? If I had understood, she wouldn't have gone away. She has made a choice and it's useless to complain to mother for my happiness.

"avessi" is ambiguous in Italian (1st or 2nd person). I think here is intended as 1st (If I).

...Se io avessi capito....non si traduce se tu avessi capito.

I agree with Xini here.

In the context it would seem more likely that this was first person and not second person.

We should ask teto13 to tell us which.

I have edited it to "If I had understood, she wouldn't have gone away". Is this correct? It seems to make sense.

Dear All,

"Se avessi capito" may mean "If you did understand (her) ... /she wouldn't go away/

Did she go, or didn't she? Is it unclear?

"If I had understood, she wouldn't have gone away"

That's really ok now!

Thanks, Xini. Doncho, maybe you need to check the chapter on conditionals in your English grammar book! They have some special rules regarding meaning and how the tenses are used with them.
