Langue de départ: Anglais

Rather than merging Landesbanks with savings or private banks, the public banking sector is seduced by the intoxicating—if daft—idea of creating a champion Landesbank, perhaps bigger than Deutsche Bank. That, some hope, would have the critical mass to succeed—even globally.

Kafetzou, I can't figure out the meaning of the last part: (it's taken from here: http://www.economist.com/displayStory.cfm?story_id=9769382) and there is a typo in "thar". it's "that". Could you give us a hand, at least in English?

"That, some hope, would have the critical mass to succeed-even globally." -->

Some people hope that this would have the critical mass (= enough weight/visibility) to succeed, even globally.

There are some errors in the transcription. I fixed them by copying and pasting in the original text from the website you found.

handyy, lütfen son cümleyi Kafetzou'nun açıkladığı şekilde (Some people hope that this would have the critical mass (= enough weight/visibility) to succeed, even globally) düzeltmeye çalışır mısın?

"Landesbank" should not have an "s" on the end. This was an error in the original, which has now been fixed.

:S ı am still confused! does "this" used at the last sentence refer to Landesbanks? and weight used as "etki/önem"??

1) For smy: Because the first idea is putting all of the different landesbanks together (= merging) with the savings banks and private banks, and this is being contrasted with the idea of creating one big champion Landesbank.

2) Where is "this", handyy? And yes, "weight" is "etki" or "önem".

This (= "that" in the original): the idea of creating a new champion Landesbank.
