I would put it this way:
"saw the car parked, but I couldn't stop on time"

No, I think this is an explanatory note about an accident.
It's a series of consecutive events in the original:
turned --> saw car sitting there --> couldn't stop
If you insist, however, I can edit it.

if you are saying that the text is not in first person, "and" is Ok.
