Actually I think the English phrase is "standing on one's own two feet", not legs.

"If they want to get a good profession and stand on their own two feet." even if two isn't mentioned here

I agree to your suggestion lenab. It would be better if that phrase were used. Also, even if not mentioned, "kendi ayakları" implies the two feet
