You could use provoked instead of roused but either way is fine. Another possible version in a more literary English style would be: The Romans, using insults, provoked the Gauls to fight.

Thank you once more. Actually, I was in doubt between "rouse" and "provoke", and I now I changed for the second verb. I kept the adverbial expression at the beginning to match the Latin source, as well as the verb in present tense.
