I don't know what the discussion above is about, but is it possible that "be seen" should be "get yourself seen" or even "make an appearance"?

Yes, kafetzou, this is the meaning of the syntagm: "But don't get yourself seen (by anyone) for nothing (in this world)!" I wrote above that I thought the original text should be like that: "Ma non ti fai vedere per niente."

Yes that's what I supposed to translate it, that vede should be vedere, because vede doesn't mean nothing ;-)

"Make an appearance" would read better in English, but without more context, I don't think we can be sure that that's what it means.
