Porque me esforço pelos amigos, estes me viram as costas

The Italian text is not correct here. Besides "perché" needing the accent, the construction is maybe missing a "se" (if)
Perché mi sforzo per gli amici, se questi mi girano le spalle?
or
Perché mi sforzo per gli amici, perché mi girino le spalle?
The first one entails less changes, but the second one is more similar to the Portoguese translation...
What should I do?
